Mrs. Mildred B. "Milly" Treece Wardell

WARDELL, MILDRED B. "MILLY" TREECE - died unexpectedly March 11, 2012 at the age of 88. She was the next to the youngest of 11 children born on May 18, 1923 to the late Reverend John and Ida Treece in the Corryton community. One beloved sister, Cleo White, survives. Milly loved music and singing such that as young women, she and her sisters Callie and Cleo sang at many local functions as an accapella trio. She believed singing helps one through the trials of life. As a young woman she was hired as the first female ticket agent for the L & N Railroad in Knoxville.
Later, she devoted her full time and energy as a mother and homemaker. She was passionate and quite particular about her cooking and baking. Milly and her husband, Calvin, enjoyed so much the connection and companionship of their many cherished relatives, friends, and neighbors. They golfed and loved the out of doors and being with their golf buddies. She was faithful in her communion with and worship of God throughout her life actively participating first in Lincoln Park Baptist Church and later in First Baptist Church, Concord. Left to mourn her passing, yet celebrate her life, is the love of her life for 65 years, Calvin C. Wardell, and their three children, Gale Wardell Johnson and husband Richard, John C. Wardell and Joe E. Wardell and wife Paige; grandchildren, Amy and husband Lewis Harville, Aaron and wife Julie Johnson; Beth Putman, Candace and husband Kent Capps, Greer and Preston Wardell; great grandchildren Sophie and Jack Putman, and Lydia, Jude, and Hudson Capps; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Pat Edwards for her compassionate friendship and for her help to Milly and her continued caring for Calvin. Receiving of friends will start at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 17 at Rose-Mann Heritage Chapel on Kingston Pike with a funeral service to follow conducted by Rev. Kent Capps at 12:00 pm. Following the funeral service family and friends will meet at 2:00 pm for the interment service at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lincoln Park Baptist Church, 830 Chickamauga Ave. Knoxville TN 37917 or to First Baptist Church, Concord, 11704 Kingston Pike Knoxville TN 37934.
